Trip to Mt. Mitsutoge in Yamanashi

Lovely spot for wedding pictures.  They had Fuji in their background.

I returned to Mt. Mitsutoge on November 16.  On the 7th, I approached from the southeast but this time I came from the north.

Short bike ride out near Mitsukaichi Station.  Can you spot Tokyo Summerland?  How about Skytree in downtown Tokyo?

Last trip of the year.  12/30.  From Yakeyama Tozanguchi ~ Sodehira and back.

I'm a machine. Pistoning in Kanagawa.

"Piston" is the word in Japanese for returning by the same route you went out on.  I pistoned in Kanagawa today.

Today I got to hike a trail and climb a mountain that I've been looking forward to for a few years.  It was closed after a typhoon in 2019 and was out of action until this year.  

It was a gorgeous day.  It's a great trail.  If you want more details, hit me up.  I want to make this a short post because I'm over blogging these days.  😜

What a great viewpoint from this tower on Mt. Yake.  I could see Nikko, Mt. Tsukuba, Okutama, Skytree, Yokohama and Lake Miyagase.

Mt. Sodehira was a great spot for lunch.

I parked my scooter at a parking lot in front of the gate to the rindo (forest road).  You can access this trailhead by bus.  The nearest bus stop is Yakeyama Tozanguchi （焼山登山口） on Route 413 in Sagamihara.

This is Tokyo.  This was a day of "hikeling."

I seem to remember the weather was only good for about 5 minutes this day.  Good enough for a beautiful pic.

One of the highlights of the year was this overnight to Kitadake, the second highest peak in Japan.

Early in the year, when I was diagnosed with cancer was learning that I'd be undergoing surgery, I made a promise to myself to climb Fuji before the end of the year.  

It wasn't as much a Herculean task as I thought, evidently.  Before my operation in June, I asked my surgeon if he thought it would be possible for me to climb it after the surgery.  He said "No.  The climbing season doesn't start until July.  You'll have to wait until then."
